Hi, came across this blog while surfing. Think you have painted an accurate picture.
Have just launched a classifieds site too (www.fullofthings.com) which hopefully has some differentiated Web 2.0 features, but agree wholeheartedly that gaining traction will be a challenging task.

Ofcourse it works in India. I do it all the time. I’m based in Bangalore at present and have been using the services of hungrybangalore for a long time and I know of a lot of other people who use it.

It’s a niche I agree but it’s one whose time has come. Who wants to get out in the traffic for a normal meal anyway ! Ofcourse, I wouldn’t order food from a speciality restaurant. For that I’d rather go an experience the place myself.

Good Idea. May be I could would like to suggest couple of features here to add wings to your project…

1. called “Invite friends”. This would help in word of mouth marketing where a person who has already registered/visited the website will can refer someone to this. In this way the site get popularized.

2. Forum -> People are always interested in discussing,brainstorming and debating about a topic of interest in thier choosen field. The forum will be a connecting point for the people interested in sports to come together and discuss about a topic/ start a new thread. This shall be moderated by a forum moderator who has experience and expertise in the choosen forum topics.

3. This website could be made as an online resource for people who wanted to know the secrets of the success from the people who had acheived something in thier life. If possible there could be a section like, “Featured Sports Man” (the name would be renamed). This section will post on montlhy/weekly basis an interview with a famous sports personality. A predefined set of questions could be mailed to a sports personality asking to provide thier sports journey and share thier struggles, path, journey of success….

These are couple of thoughts that flashed into my mind and guess if might be of useful to you….

Really nice post…..comparison with cragislist vs indain classifieds. the problem with Indian companies are all the products are clone of US . They just clone it and put some ads …. and don’t care about the users.

thanks arnab and ratish … One main feature that i wish to concentrate on is the blogging sphere… we could be the leading blog in sports arena… we would invite Indian sport greats to blog at our website. This can bring initial traction … like we have many techblogs which are profitable .. like techcrunch.com and watblog in India
